what is an issue that you feel very strongly about, an issue that you would put you into the street at a rally, demonstration, or protest?? Why is that issue so important to you?
An issue I feel very strongly about is the issue of gay rights. In some states, gay marriage is legal. In others, it's not. It really bothers me that people think they have the right to tell other people who they can and cannot be with. In the past, it was "wrong" to marry someone of a different social class...in the past, it was "wrong" to marry someone of another race...and now people are saying it is "wrong" to marry someone of the same sex. But to me, it shouldn't matter. I believe everyone can marry, love, be with Whoever they want... whatever color, size, height, race, or sex. No human has the right to tell another human being who they can and cannot love.
I understand that this is a controversial topic for some people. I also understand that some people bring factors like religion into this. Let me just say... I am a Catholic, I go to church every Sunday, and I believe in God. Yet I still believe that gay rights should be equal to others and that sexual orientation should never be an issue. Marriage is something made up by people...it is a legal and political thing, you sign documents and everything; God never said Marriage is between a man and a woman and they have to sign something and pay property taxtes together and sign prenups."
So why is it that politicians and lawmakers and people think that they have the power to say, "Marriage is meant for a man and a woman." Why does it matter who a person falls in love with?
