Iraq

I've noticed that a lot of people feel that we should just pull out of Iraq right away and ideallistically that would seem to be the most obvious solution. We went to war with Iraq on false pretenses and to this day our government has still neglected to come up with a valid reason for our presence there. Our president told us that we had to go into Iraq to fight terrorism because they had "weapons of mass destruction." He gave off the impression that Iraq had some how been involved with helping Bin Laden in the 9/11 attack. Then, it turns out that, wow! Osama Bin Laden had absolutely nothing to do with Iraq or Sadam Hussein and guess what? No weapons of mass destruction were found either...oops? The reason that we are (and at this point need) to be there is because we have we have caused such turmoil and destruction in this nation that to just leave them in the condtion they are in would not be right. Not to have gone there in the first place...yeah that would have been a good idea!!! But at this point we really can't just pack up and go.
Our attempt to bring Democracy to Iraq is not realistic. These people are not educated in the same way that people from our country are, they don't understand democracy and it is ridiculous to think that they could just abandon their tradition and become accustomed to that of a foreign land. The rivalry between the tribes of the Sunni and Shiite has only expanded as there is now tension between groups within each tribe. Basically, whatever our intentions, we have caused a lot of hardship for people from this country and there really isn't much we can do about it at this point. Our best bet is to read up on the situation and pay attention to what people say about it...especially with the upcoming election. A lot of us will be 18 and it's important to know whats going on so that necessary changes can be made for the future.
