So a lot of you were posting about this and I thought I'd throw some opinions in. Sabrina, I agree with you in the fact that we are all immigrants. It's true. I think it is kind of ridiculous that there is such a thing as an illegal immigrant anyway. If someone wants to come here, we should be helping them do it instead of turning them away. They obviously have a reason to want to be here, let's help them out. And if we can't help them stay here, maybe we could do something for the country they came from. I think it is insane to put a limit on the number of immigrants we can have coming in. I know it's getting crowded here and stuff, but that can be fixed with a little bit of creative problem solving on behalf of our government. But I guess it would just be easier to send them back. And about the jobs, immigrants tend to do a lot of work that those of us who have grown up here will not do. They are doing very necessary jobs for lower pay. And they're happy with that for the most part, because it's better than what they came from. All of my friends that have jobs make more than minimum wage (sometimes much more), there is no way that all immigrants make well over the minimum. I just think that if America is supposed to be this country of opportunity and acceptance and cultural diversity, how could we turn someone away if they want to be a part of it? I know it is hard to work the logistics out, but my belief is that it could be done if we put enough effort into getting the immigration situation organized. I hope that makes some sense...
I also think the costume ban is ridiculous. Not because I disagree with the fact that the costumes get distracting, but because only a few costumes are seriously a problem. And if they had implemented a set of rules for costumes or something like that, I think there could have been some sort of better compromise than the complete removal of a cultural tradition from our year.
